INTRODUCTION:

This School has been established in 2003 and is granted permission as ‘OIKOS HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL’ and is recognised by the Mizoram Board of School Education in 2007. This School is purely
Higher Secondary School which admits only Classes XI and XII. The School MOTTO is ‘The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom’ (Proverbs 1:7).

OBJECTIVES:
This School prepares students to appear in the HSSLC Examination conducted by the Mizoram Board of School Education. Teaching is fundamentally imparted in English supplemented whenever found necessary in vernacular language. It is a co-educational institution and the central theme of teaching resort to child centred education wherein students are guided for self learning. Students own works are encouraged so as to prepare them well for higher studies.

ADMISSION:
Admission is possible only in class XI (Arts/Science/Commerce) based on merit. Recommendations of any kind will disqualify a candidate for admission.

EXAMINATIONS:
The progress of the students is assessed by means of test and examination conducted every week. Terminal Examinations are conducted three times in the academic year. Promotion is granted on the basis of the whole year’s performance and character of the student. Pupils who absent themselves from Weekly Test and Examination without proper reasons and prior permission of the Principal will not be considered for Promotion to the next class.

SCHOOL SESSION AND TEXT BOOK:
The School always follows the School Calendar issued by the Department of School Education, Government of Mizoram. Text Books prescribed by the Mizoram Board of School Education in all subjects will be followed.

HOSTEL:
Limited Hostel seats are available for Class XI students, the School admits hosteller only from outside Aizawl City in Class XI. However, Hostel seats will be made available for all applicants in the second year (i.e Class XII) based on their academic performance. The school has obtained Hostel Permission from the Govt. of Mizoram.

SCHOOL UNIFORM:
For uniformity and convenience of the student, uniform materials and exercise books will be made available in the School. School Text Books are to be bought from ‘Zofa’ only.

RULES AND REGULATIONS
1. UNIFORM
a) White full-sleeved shirt and dark grey pants for boys and skirt of knee length for girls.
b) Black naughty boy shoes and dark blue socks.
c) Neck tie, badge, belt and sweater are also part of school uniform.
d) School jersey should be worn only on Wednesdays.
e) Any black colour bag can be used for school bag. All the uniform and materials are made available at the school for uniformity.

2. HAIR
a) Girls should grow their hair without fringes and tie it neatly. Use of hair colour is not allowed.
b) Boys should cut their hair evenly and neatly without any specific styles (Mohawks, Fade cutting etc). Use of hair colour is strictly prohibited.
3. MOBILE PHONES
a) Bringing mobile phones to school is strictly prohibited along with keeping phones around the nearby houses and shops.
b) Phones will be confiscated once caught in school, parents should not come up with reasons and excuses and phones will not be returned.
4. MAKE-UP AND ACCESSORIES
a) Threading/plucking of eye brows along with make-up and accessories like rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings are not allowed.
b) Normal spectacles with simple frame should be used, only transparent contact lenses are allowed.
c) Use of eye liner, lipstick and coloured lip glosses are not allowed.
Only transparent lip gloss is allowed in the school.
5. TIFFIN
Students are expected to bring Tiffin to school in simple tiffin boxes, bringing in junk foods and chips (Wai Wai, lays etc) to school is prohibited.
6. SCHOOL DISCIPLINE
a) Possession and intaking of substances such as cigarettes, shikhar etc isnot permitted; the punishment can extend upto termination from the school.
b) Intoxicating liquor such as alcohol, drugs, grape wine etc is not expected from students, if anyone is caught intoxicating them it will lead to expulsion of the student from the school. This should serve as a warning for all students.
7. LEAVE FOR STUDENTS
a) Parents should inform their Class teacher(s) or Principal for obtaining leave for their ward(s). If students are absent for more than 3 days without informing the school, it may lead to cancellation of admission from the school.
b) Requesting for leave through mobile phones is not allowed except in cases of death/emergency. Students should take leave 3 days prior for any ceremonial functions/activities like marriage etc.
8. SCHOLARSHIP
Three scholarship- Merit, Tribal and Minority scholarship can be applied by students depending on their performance and status. Students are requested to open bank accounts in their own name before application of scholarship.
9. SCHOOL HOURS
a) School starts at 9:00 am and ends at 3:15 pm, the lunch break is of 30 minutes, during which no students are allowed to leave the school premises. If the teachers so decide, students may be required to stay on till 4:00 pm for extra class.
b) Students of class XII are required to be present in the school for extra classes even on Saturdays and some public holidays. Absenting oneself from such extra classes will be viewed seriously.
10. OTHERS
a) Possession of objects such as marker, blade, chewing gums etc which can tarnish the image of the school and the public is strictly prohibited.
b) Students are not allowed to bring two wheelers and other vehicles to school.
c) Students are not to indulge themselves in businesses such as selling of cosmetics, clothes etc which are not allowed inside the school campus.
d) Leaving the school text books overnight is not permitted; students should take home all their books along with them.
e) Violence of any form such as fighting, disobedience, ragging etc is pro hibited in the school which can lead to expulsion from the school.
f) Oikos Higher Secondary School is a space where freedom and equality co-exist, any attempt to discriminate any particular sections including the handicapped etc will lead to expulsion from the school.
g) Oikos Higher Secondary School do not use corporal punishment towards disciplining students. However, warning will be given to students who are disobedient and who cause inconveniences to others, even if giving of warning does not produce any result, it will lead to expulsion of students from the school.
